Dear friends in Alrewas, Fradley & Wychnor,

As we enter the month of November, my time of ‘holding the fort’ in Revd John’s absence is coming to an end.  I’d like to thank all of you for your prayers and support during this time, and to publicly thank Revd Elizabeth, Carole and Dot for their camaraderie as a ministry team.

October has been an exciting time in the Benefice as we have celebrated Harvest with wonderful suppers in Alrewas and Fradley, and with refreshments amongst dear friends at Wychnor.  We have also welcomed three new Confirmation candidates into the benefice with a wonderful service at St Anne’s Church, Chasetown.

This looking back is entirely appropriate as we look ahead to our revamped All Souls Service on November 4th at 3pm, and to Remembrance Sunday, the hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War, on November 11th at 10:45am.  Remembrance is a time of great poignancy and emotion for many of us, as we remember family members who served, those who were lost in war, and those who came back changed for ever.  As church and community together, it is vital for us to re-member those lost in the horrors of war, living up to our promises that we will remember them.

As Christians, we are called to strive for justice and peace through prayer and action.  Our remembrance, of those who lost their lives serving Queen and country, must never become a celebration of war; instead it should remind us of the price they paid, their sacrifice, and their camaraderie in the face of such horrors should spur us on as together we strive to be peacemakers in our time.

Love and blessings

Revd Chris
